The holiday season is touted as the most wonderful time of year, but is it really wonderful to spend all day cooking a holiday meal so your entire family can cram around the dining room table? Or to watch your kids race from gift to gift and rip off the wrapping paper, more interested in what’s next than the presents themselves?
Instead of having a traditional holiday this year, you should consider a holiday cruise where everything is provided for you and your family and all you have to do is just sit back, relax, and enjoy the endless waterfront view.
If you’d like to get out of town this December, there are plenty of perfect, last-minute cruise options that are still available – all you have to decide is what kind of holiday vacation you want to have!
Traveling With Kids? Disney Cruise Line Has You Covered
Disney Cruise Line wants you and your family to have a “Very Merrytime” this holiday season with three different cruises departing from three different locations for three, five, or seven nights depending on how long you want to get away.
Disney’s 3-night Very Merrytime Bahamian cruise departs from Port Canaveral near Orlando and travels to Nassau and Castaway Cay before heading back to Florida. The Disney Dream will be decked out with “winter wonderland décor, holiday parties, festive activities, and more.” Castaway Cay – Disney’s private island – will also be decorated for the holidays, and guests will be able to have a BBQ lunch, hang out with Disney characters, and play fun games. Need to get away from the kids? There’s also an adults-only beach.
Disney also has a 5-night Very Merrytime Eastern Caribbean cruise departing from San Juan and returning to Miami. Need more time? Check out their 7-night Very Merrytime Western Caribbean cruise departing from and arriving back in Galveston, with stops in Cozumel and Grand Cayman.
Want a Classic Holiday Experience? Check Out the Christmas Markets in Europe
AmaWaterways is currently offering a 7-night Christmas Markets on the Rhine cruise, where you can cruise from Amsterdam to Basel – or vice versa – through the Black Forest and Alsace regions. Go hiking, biking, and wine tasting before or after you visit the lively Christmas markets in Cologne, Rudesheim, Mannheim, Strasbourg, and Breisach.
Numerous included tours and excursions will keep you busy, and if you want more time, you can add two extra nights in Zurich or Lucerne depending on where you embark and disembark from.
River cruises are usually more low-key and have less people, so this cruise might be perfect if you’re looking to simply enjoy your surroundings and take in the European culture.
Seeking a More Unique Trip? Try Crystal’s African Holiday Cruise
This year, Crystal Cruises is making history with their “first-ever holiday cruise in Africa.” On this 16-day cruise, you’ll spend Christmas and New Year’s cruising the coast of Africa with stops in Mozambique; Richards Bay, Durban, East London, and Port Elizabeth in South Africa; and Namibia.
Choose from shore excursions that include helicopter tours, wine tastings, safaris, ziplining, kayaking, a raptor sanctuary, and many more exciting experiences. In addition to your offshore adventures, the ship will have a number of shows and revues for your entertainment, as well as multiple lecturers for their Crystal Visions Enrichment Program, and free interactive classes as part of their Creative Learning Institute.
Try something new this year and shake up your holiday season with one of the many holiday cruises available this December. Just remember to be safe and enjoy being with the people you love.
